Yang Xiao, a student from the German program at Hangzhou Entel Foreign Language School, won the national championship in the A2 category at the National German Olympiad Finals. This summer, she represented China at the International German Olympiad (IDO) in Mannheim, Germany, joining around 150 participants from 66 countries for 11 days of learning and cultural exchange. Highlights included a collaborative “Future City” project, where Yang’s team created a radio program featuring a device that transmits cultural treasures across borders. At the “Länderabend” (Country Night), she co-created a cross-cultural play with peers from Azerbaijan, Moldova, and Brazil. Reflecting on the experience, Yang shared, “Learning German isn’t just about exams — it opens a window to global cultures.”
