At the opening ceremony of the new semester, Principal Zhu Xuehua of Hangzhou Entel Foreign Language School delivered a thought-provoking speech on the wisdom of “fast and slow” thinking. Drawing from Daniel Kahneman’s Thinking, Fast and Slow, Principal Zhu urged students and teachers to harness the strengths of both systems: fast thinking for efficiency and adaptability, and slow thinking for depth and reflection. “Technology amplifies our fast thinking, but deep cultivation still requires slow, focused effort,” he remarked. He concluded by encouraging the school community to strike a balance, “embracing speed for action while preserving slowness for wisdom,” so as to navigate the new semester with clarity, resilience, and purpose.
